Our Story

Gracie and Alyssa were well into their teaching careers when they both met working at an international school. As teachers, they worked tirelessly to build meaningful relationships, design effective lessons, and empower their students to succeed. However, they felt that between the lack of empowerment from leadership, constantly growing to-do lists, and no work-life balance, they weren’t set up for success.

Though they eventually went on to other teaching positions in different countries, they reconnected as COVID-19 unfolded. Both expressed similar frustrations about the ever-changing expectations of teaching in a pandemic. The overwhelming pressure placed on teachers was taking a physical and mental toll on both of them. They were experiencing extreme teacher burnout. Toxic positivity, the stigma of leaving the “lifelong” profession of teaching, and the fear of the unknown kept them uncertain about whether leaving their teaching career was the right choice.

In April 2020 Gracie knew teaching was no longer serving her, and she became determined to land a role in EdTech. She knew there were high paying jobs for teachers she was qualified for, but had no idea how to communicate the value she could add. Job hunt resources for teachers were scarce, and Gracie was eager to learn from any former teachers who had transitioned into EdTech. She struggled to independently navigate the job market. After 6 months, Gracie found the role that was right for her.

When Gracie shared the news of her career transition, Alyssa seized the opportunity to learn more. The two had regular calls where Gracie helped Alyssa recognize the valuable skills she already had and guided her through the job hunt process to find a virtual role for a teacher. Alyssa wasn’t the only one. As the 2020-2021 school year progressed, more teachers reached out to Gracie. The pair quickly realized just how many teachers were thinking about leaving the classroom and wanted guidance. Driven by their love for educators and passion for helping others, TeacherPivot was born!

TeacherPivot was created because we know all the amazing skills that teachers possess. We want to help you successfully market your skills to the outside world and guide you through some important mindset work in order to keep your sanity and battle teacher burnout. Our Team

    Gracie

    Founder

Gracie has a BS in Elementary Education and a MEd with an emphasis in International Education. She taught 1st and 4th grade for several years in Phoenix, Guatemala, and China before pivoting into a role as a Curriculum Support Specialist. She works in EdTech at the largest provider of K-12 digital curriculum in the U.S. After Pivoting she wanted to help other educators do the same and encouraged others to reach out. When Alyssa contacted her, TeacherPivot was born! Since then, Gracie has been the driving force on our team, continuously brainstorming new and innovative ways to help fellow educators with their Pivots. In her free time you can find her hiking the trails of Northern Arizona or making new dog friends at a local brewery.

    Alyssa

    Founder

Alyssa has a BS in Elementary Education and a MEd in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. She taught 3rd through 7th grade for eight years in New Mexico, Oregon, and Guatemala, before pivoting into a career as a Customer Support Advocate. During her own Pivot, she dreamed about helping others who wished to leave the classroom do the same. Alyssa enjoys building TeacherPivot resources based on the lessons she learned from her own job search struggles. She loves working with teachers during coaching sessions, assuring them that their Pivot is within reach! In her free time you can find her reading a book in the bathtub, scoping out new remote work spaces, and sampling all the best breweries and restaurants she comes across.

    Nick

    Business Strategy Advisor

Nick has spent the better part of a decade working in expansion and operations for high growth startups such as Uber and Lime, coming in the early stages and setting them up to scale rapidly and efficiently. Along with a climate change non-profit, Nick has also founded three companies. He’s motivated by creating an impact and positively affecting people’s lives, rather than just focusing on profit. This is what immediately drew him to TeacherPivot’s mission. When he’s not conducting business, you can find Nick winding through canyon roads on his motorcycle or out for a hike. Once the pandemic recedes you’ll also find him on the dance floor.

    Rafael

    Technology Operations Manager

Rafael has a BS in Veterinary Medicine and worked for several years in a small animal hospital in São Paulo, Brazil. After traveling around the world for two years he decided to Pivot into a more flexible career that allowed him to embrace his diverse interests. He now works with several teams, managing their websites, social media, and technology integrations. He still loves animals but is now more relaxed than he used to be.
